TURN Gallery presents Mason Saltarrelli in PURPLE TREE opening Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023. This marks his third solo exhibition at the gallery.
My right leg changes from fuchsia to a deep purple based on temperature. Since birth it has always been this way, so sometimes I am asked, why is your leg purple?
My purple right leg blossomed from a cypress tree along the Mississippi River. The left leg arrived by tulip, a blue tulip never seen. My torso is from our moon, the orb which kindly offers us memory of the sun while it swims away. Echoed into existence, the left arm is from a seldom heard song - somewhere sung repeatedly. My right arm, unaware of its past, revels in present rituals of mark cackling constantly with color. My head is from rolling tides, contents include black and white film developer pushing and pulling pigmented articulations onto cotton ducks.
The paintings of Purple Tree handle and carry the freight of personal memory. Woven together through a tulip and the tides, cherished merged and repeating forms pause exposing individual records of evolving silent memorials.
