TURN Gallery is pleased to present Iranian-American artist Kimia Ferdowsi Kline's solo exhibition Landscapes for the Hungry. In this exhibition, Kimia Ferdowsi Kline explores her deep-rooted desire to connect the East with the West, weaving the personal with the mythological, inviting us into her dream-like layered compositions.

Kimia Ferdowsi Kline, whose family was exiled from Iran before she was born, reaches for an unseen heritage, not in nostalgia, but in a desire for common ground. Lush strokes of vibrant oil on panel or paper, her landscapes are a kind of paradise where ghost-like female figures appear, questioning the relationships between nature and femininity, stripping them to their bare emotions.

The paintings seamlessly blend the familiar with the foreign with a gentle nod to globalization. Assembled from family stories, found images, and archetypal images such as the River Jordan and the Silk Road, her paintings become areas for experience - a way to participate in a time and place she is barred from otherwise. Kimia Ferdowsi Kline connects us to our inner dreamscapes, turning foreign into the familiar and familiar into majestic. Transporting us through her sumptuous pathways Kimia Ferdowsi Kline leads us to a core desire to connect with her own homeland, however different or familiar.
